Residential Facilities
Our Accommodation
We pride ourselves on the quality of our accommodation. This ranges from highly supported environments to houses that promote increasing levels of independence. With its village-like feel, our accommodation offers a real sense of community, allowing individuals the option to interact with their fellow learners or to take advantage of the available space and freedom.
All David Lewis School and College accommodation is registered and inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Types of Residences
Our learners have access to a variety of residences, consisting both of modern houses and elegant, characterful properties; they range in size and number of bedrooms. The accommodation offers a range of environments, from low stimulus to highly structured; other accommodation has the feel of a typical ‘Hall of Residence’ that you would find on a university campus.
Every residential learner has their own bedroom and many rooms have en suite facilities.
We take great care to ensure that each learner has an appropriate peer group in appropriate accommodation.
On-Site Support
All learners are assigned a dedicated Keyworker. Our Keyworkers are highly trained and understand the particular needs and interests of the student they are supporting. The role of the Keyworker is not only to help students to learn but also to ensure that they thrive and enjoy themselves.
All staff understand the need to respect an individual’s right to privacy and dignity and to ensure the safety and security of all students at all times.
Every home also has waking night staff.
Facilities
All houses have communal kitchens, dining areas and lounges with TVs. We treat all of our learners as individuals, including the provision of personal care equipment appropriate to an individual’s needs. Houses are equipped with WiFi and Skype telephone access and some houses include specially adapted rooms and sensory rooms.
Residential learners can access all on-site facilities, including the swimming pool and sports facilities each evening and at weekends. The ‘David Lewis Local’ shop sells a range of products and is open every weekday.
Extended curriculum time focuses on developing life skills, communication and inter-personal skills; there is a full programme of social, leisure and creative activities.
